Zone Stamps recalculating wall surfaces correctly after a geometry change — that's the kind of fix that makes a long project feel sane again. ArchiCAD 29.2.1 on Mac keeps the deeper tools intact for those who live in the BIM model.

Virtual Building technology — the core model that holds architecture, structure and MEP in one coordinated whole, so changes propagate where they should.

Object dialog — create, search, upload and download BIM components straight from the dialog, no need to leave the app to find what you need.

Third-party BIM components — drop in components from other vendors and keep them working in the project.

Integrated web portal — exchange BIM components with consultants and specialists in other fields without breaking the workflow.

Teamwork Send and Receive — improved on BIMcloud SaaS for smoother collaboration.

My Tuesday session with ArchiCAD 29.2.1 started with a client's last-minute change to a ground-floor apartment. I had the existing model open — a mixed-use block with retail on the ground level and flats above. The change was simple: shift the kitchen wall by 400 mm. But in a BIM model, one wall move can ripple through schedules, zone stamps, and window positions if the software doesn't handle geometry updates cleanly.

A real session, step by step

I opened the project file and selected the zone boundary tool. After adjusting the wall position in the plan view, I switched to the zone stamp layer. Here, the 29.2.1 fix matters: zone stamps now show the correct wall surface area after geometry changes. In earlier versions I’d have checked the schedule manually and recalculated if the numbers looked odd. This time the stamp updated straight away — one less thing to verify.

Next came the BIM components for the kitchen fixtures. I opened the object dialog and searched for a specific basin model from a third-party library. The dialog lets you browse, preview and place components without leaving ArchiCAD. I dropped the basin into the plan, adjusted its rotation — and here the Rotate command fix came into play. Earlier, the Rotate command could misinterpret the angle you typed in. In 29.2.1 the rotation behaves as expected. No double-checking the number.

With the basin placed, I needed to share the updated model with the structural consultant. I opened the Share dialog to send the latest BIMcloud file. The 29.2.1 fix for the host server selection saved me a moment: the dialog now picks the correct server for the current folder, so I didn't have to hunt through drop-downs. I hit Send, and the Teamwork transfer completed without the inconsistent delays that could happen before.

Mac tools integration in ArchiCAD

ArchiCAD works alongside macOS tools more than you might expect. I keep a Finder window pinned to my project folders, and drag reference PDFs or manufacturer specs directly into the model's embedded document set. The object dialog’s web portal integration means I don't need a separate browser tab for downloading BIM components — the model stays in the foreground.

For larger teams, the BIMcloud SaaS setup on Mac behaves like any other cloud service: your project files sync in the background, and the Send/Receive operations in ArchiCAD trigger the sync. The 29.2.1 improvements make those operations more predictable, especially when the network has variable latency.

I also use macOS Spaces to keep ArchiCAD on one desktop and reference materials on another. The model window handles well at native macOS resolution on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and the interface scales correctly with macOS's display settings.

Rotate command angle input fix

Stuck with a Rotate command that won't accept your angle. If you're on an older version, the input could misinterpret the number you type. In 29.2.1 this is fixed. If you still see odd angles, check that you're not in a locked group — unlock the group first, then rotate.

Teamwork Send and Receive taking too long. The 29.2.1 update addresses inconsistently long transfers on BIMcloud SaaS. If you're still waiting beyond what feels normal, check your BIMcloud connection status in ArchiCAD's teamwork palette. Sometimes a full local sync (Save as local project, then reopen) clears out stalled transfer queues.

Scrolling through Attributes causes a crash. This was a known issue in earlier 29 builds. In 29.2.1 the crash is resolved. If you still encounter it, rebuild the attribute database from the project utility options — this cleans any corrupted attribute entries.

Migrated projects with shifted dimensions. Projects imported from older ArchiCAD versions could contain dimensions that moved to wrong values. The 29.2.1 update fixes new migrations. For existing migrated files, use the dimension update tool to realign them.

ArchiCAD's BIM depth vs. Vectorworks

ArchiCAD vs. Vectorworks Architect. Vectorworks handles 2D drafting and presentation drawings with a lighter touch, but its BIM capabilities aren't as deep. ArchiCAD’s Virtual Building technology keeps the whole building model coordinated — structure, walls, zones, surfaces — so a change in one view updates schedules and stamps automatically. Vectorworks requires more manual cross-checking for that kind of data consistency.

ArchiCAD vs. FreeCAD. FreeCAD is open-source and parametric, but it's not built for architectural BIM workflows. It lacks the object dialog for BIM components, the Teamwork sharing system, and the GDL library for parametric building elements. FreeCAD works well for mechanical parts or small-scale models; ArchiCAD handles multi‑storey buildings with consultants attached.

ArchiCAD vs. Chief Architect. Chief Architect is strong for residential design and automated framing, but its BIM data exchange outside the US market is more limited. ArchiCAD's support for third-party BIM components and the integrated web portal makes it easier to collaborate with European or international consultants using IFC or BCF formats.

For an archicad torrent on Mac, this version runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel, built for macOS 14 and later.

Questions after a gig

Does ArchiCAD 29.2.1 fix the Rotate command input issue?

Yes, the update fixes a remaining input issue where values entered in the Rotate command were interpreted incorrectly.

Can I use third-party BIM components in ArchiCAD?

Yes, ArchiCAD supports third-party BIM components in projects, and you can manage them through the object dialog.

What was the crash when scrolling through Attributes?

The update fixes a crash that could occur while scrolling through Attributes in the software.

Loading it onto the Mac

  1. Install the main version of ArchiCAD first — the update won't work without it.
  2. Open Graphisoft Downloads and pick the product version, architecture and language you need.
  3. Sign in or register if prompted, then download the selected package. Registration isn't required for updates.
  4. Install the main version, then install the update on top.
  5. Full install instructions come with the package.
