Premiere Pro handles over 20 video formats natively, from consumer H.264 to camera RAW. That breadth makes it the central app in a Mac-based video workflow — after you cut in Premiere, you often send clips to After Effects for motion graphics or Audition for audio cleanup.

Colour and graphics

The Lumetri Color panel lives inside the same timeline, so you grade without leaving the edit. For titles and lower thirds, the Essential Graphics panel pulls templates from your library or Adobe Stock. No round-tripping needed for basic graphics work.

Audio without a second app

The Essential Sound panel classifies clips as dialogue, music, or ambience and applies appropriate processing. For quick fixes like removing background hum, it does the job before you export.

Generative tools in the timeline

Version 26.5 adds the Generative Media Tool that creates video and sound effects directly on the timeline. Generative Extend now works up to 4K UHD and with interlaced footage, so you can lengthen clips without sourcing extra material.

Paper Edit: starting from a transcript

Version 26.5 introduces Paper Edit, which changes how you can begin a project. Instead of dragging clips onto a timeline first, you work from a transcript. The tool reads the spoken words in your footage and lets you select lines, arrange them in order, and build a rough cut. It is useful when you have long interviews or dialogue-heavy material — you find the right soundbites, string them together, and only then look at the visuals. The timeline is assembled from the transcript selections, so your sequence matches the spoken structure from the start.

For a music student who also shoots band interviews or documentary footage, Paper Edit saves the step of scrubbing through hours of material. You read the transcript, mark what you want, and the timeline builds itself.

Generative Media Tool sits alongside existing tools

Most of the 26.5 additions do not force you to change your workflow. They sit alongside the tools you already use.

  • Generative Media Tool — you right-click in the timeline and choose to generate a video clip or a sound effect. It fills gaps without leaving the edit window.
  • Generative Extend — previously limited to certain resolutions, it now accepts footage from 360p up to 4K UHD, any aspect ratio, and interlaced or non-square-pixel material. If you work with older or mixed-format archives, that extension matters.
  • ProRes RAW and ARRICORE — support for Sony FX5 cameras and ALEXA 35 Xtreme media means less transcoding on set. You import and edit natively.
  • Hardware decoding — the 4:2:2 10-bit decoding for AVC and HEVC in MXF is specific to NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, so it only helps Mac users who run an external GPU with that architecture.

None of these features change the fundamentals. The timeline, the trim tools, the keyboard shortcuts you already know all stay the same.

For weekly content creators who need editing, colour, and audio

Premiere Pro fits several kinds of Mac users, but they share one trait: they work with video regularly and need a single app that covers editing, colour, and audio.

  • Content creators who upload weekly and want to finish a video in one session. The integration with Adobe Stock and the Essential Graphics panel means they can add titles and transitions without a separate motion design tool.
  • Post-production teams who collaborate on long-form projects. The shared project workflow and timeline-based grading make it practical for multiple editors working on the same sequence.
  • Film and TV editors who handle camera RAW formats from ARRI, Sony, or RED. Premiere Pro decodes these natively, so they do not generate proxies unless they choose to.
  • Music students and event videographers who shoot performances and interviews. The Essential Sound panel and the new Generative tools help clean up audio and fill short gaps in footage without opening a second application.

If you edit on an Apple Silicon Mac, the application runs as a native binary, which keeps the timeline responsive even with 4K layers and multiple effects.

Installation questions answered

Running alongside other Adobe apps on the same Mac

Yes. To avoid conflicts when installing several Adobe applications, ensure releases from the same group are kept together; combining different release groups may lead to issues. The package includes instructions for activation, and the release works with Adobe servers for online verification.

Does it support Apple Silicon natively?

Yes. Version 26.5 operates on Apple Silicon and Intel 64-bit Macs. On Apple Silicon, the application uses the M-series GPU for hardware acceleration, which speeds up rendering and playback of H.264 and HEVC material. No Rosetta translation is needed.

What language options are available?

The interface ships in ten languages: Russian, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, French, and Japanese. You switch the language during installation or in the application preferences.

Graphics card needs for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs

For Intel Macs, Premiere Pro needs an integrated graphics unit or an AMD separate graphics card that has a minimum of 4 GB of video RAM. On Apple Silicon, a single memory pool manages system and GPU workloads, requiring at least 8 GB of unified memory. For timelines with multiple 4K streams or heavy Lumetri grading, more memory helps.

Questions after a gig

Can I add adjustment layers in Premiere Pro?

Yes — you create an adjustment layer via the Project panel (New Item > Adjustment Layer) and place it above your clips. Effects applied to that layer affect everything underneath.

Does Premiere Pro support Apple Silicon natively?

Yes. Premiere Pro runs natively on Apple Silicon Macs and requires macOS 14 or later.

Loading it onto the Mac

  1. Installation and activation instructions are included inside the package.
  2. For Monter Group releases, the installation process is simpler.
  3. Releases with the Adobe Activation Tool have access to Adobe servers.
  4. If you have multiple Adobe apps installed, keep releases from the same group together and do not mix them.
